OKTOBERFEST 2010 - 8/9/10 OCTOBER

BROADWAY HOUSE ONSITE CAMPING NOW SOLD OUT but day visitors on Saturday and Sundary are more than welcome
... there's no need to miss out ...

... as there are several local campsites and a weekend pass for Saturday and Sunday is available, on the gate, for £15 per adult - this will enable you to come in and out as you please over the two days and join in with the evening entertainment.

Visitors wishing to visit for just one day are also very welcome.
The cost to visit on Saturday or Sunday is £8 per adult per day.

  • A few static caravans are still available - please email us with your requirements. Costs are as follows for two nights (Friday and Saturday):

    • 1 bed static (sleeps 2) £100 plus £50 refundable deposit.
    • 2 bed static (sleeps 4) £120 plus £50 refundable deposit.
    • No 3 beds left.
    • The cost for the show for those staying in statics is £15 per adult, £10 for 13-16 year olds and £5 for 5-10 year olds. Dogs staying in statics (only a few pet friendly statics available) are £5 (max two dogs).

Preparations are well underway to ensure the 2010 Oktoberfest is another memorable one. As many of you already know, Broadway House in Cheddar is not only in the most beautiful spot, but has facilities to match.

There's no huge trade arena, but a great selection of 35 hand picked traders and food vendors: this weekend's about chilling with your family and friends, letting the kid's run off steam in the adventure playground and BMX track, checking out the lovely Somerset countryside and getting bits and pieces in stock for your winter project. There's an informal "Spirit of Oktoberfest" dub display (with prizes) on Sunday and day visitors are more than welcome on Saturday and Sunday, although, as said, this is in essence a family camping weekend. Complimentary "Tea and Toast" will be served Sunday morning and you can be sure that there'll be loads of off the cuff entertainment for all ages over the weekend.

Plus, we've two nights of great entertainment for you:

Friday night kicks of with The Freak Bruvvers, fellow V-dubbers who we know you'll love with their varied acoustic show of Blues, Rock ‘n’ Roll and Classic Rock from Lynnard Skynnard to The Rolling Stones with a few surprises on the way!!
The Freak Bruvvers

The Re-offenders

Saturday evening's entertainment begins at 7.30ish with kids fun, games, competitions and disco, followed by Brian's Night of Fire poi fire juggling display taking you into the night's main entertainment.

We know how you all like to dress up for Oktoberfest and this Saturday evening is a "Hawaiian Halloween Punk Party" (plenty of scope there!) and, in keeping with this theme, we've got the brilliant Re-offenders to get you in the mood with an eclectic range of modern and classic punk. One reviewer stated "If you stand still for this band, you must be clinically dead".

Meanwhile, in the marquee, we've got our very own DJ Ono playing you some alternative 70s soul and funk. Your choice!

OKTOBERFEST, CHEDDAR, 2/3/4 OCTOBER 2009

A TOP WEEKEND OF CHEESE 'n CIDER

A word from Adrian:

The long overdue summer managed to just about hang on: after our first baptism of water, Oktoberfest 2 was blessed by more suitable (and rather nice) camping weather. Our prayer to the Sun God was heard.

Almost everyone got the message that Oktoberfest is a VW gathering designed as a family friendly end of season get together and were ready to take advantage of all the onsite facilities. As a family organised show, we try to keep one and all happy and include as much as possible as "part of the package" and the couple of new activities we thought up over the summer went down a storm.

The Sedgmoor charabanc outing with over 130 happy campers touring Zummerzet was a huge success. Thanks for all the nice emails and remarks - not forgetting the mexican waves!

The kids kept us very busy for 2 days with their colour your wagen pictures being made into keyrings and badges which gave the parents a bit of a well earned respite too.

Jono's jazz funk party tent was ultra cool and gave an alternative choice of entertainment to our Friday night band, Start (brilliant V-dub show-playing virgins) who gave a great performance in the Club. Come Saturday night - the biggie - we had the best Halloween fancy dress party I've ever attended - kids, adults, dogs (and vans) all dressed for the occasion. A Big Up to you all for such a fantastic effort - and the guy from the Planet of the Apes freaked me right out - real scary eyes!

Our fellow V-dubbers from Bristol, The Emperials, got the whole house trembling with their Skaaaary party night - well done lads!. After last year's epic Christmas lunch, Bath Air Cooled had their Boxing Day Buffet early Saturday evening so a fair few Christmas characters joined the Halloween folk to make an interesting mix.

So for most of us, including me, too much of the orange stuff made Sunday a slow start but the complimentary tea and toast for those who found the information point between 9 and 10 certainly helped. The trade area was bustling all weekend and big thanks to the traders who joined us. They put on a diverse choice of parts, vw goodies, info and displays in a newly prepared area just perfect for the job.

The Spirit of Oktoberfest: not a show and shine per se and I was gob smacked come midday when I went to check it out and found the arena full of top quality V-dubs. Certificates and prizes were awarded to five V-dubs we felt embodied the spirit of Oktoberfest. Thanks to everyone who entered.

I managed to get around the campsite and take a few snaps and check out a few friendly faces b4 they drifted away and it certainly made all the preparations worth while as I found everyone had enjoyed their weekend trip to gorgeous Cheddar. As last year, the campsite facilities were well used - BMX track, skate park, adventure playground and even the outdoor swimming pool - the latter especially by that handsome, key finding, ace tuning Grecian member of the VW Dub posse from South Gloucestershire.
